Our next quantum leap is supported by our new Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building that opened in January 2019. The McEwen Building provides a vibrant, collaborative and inspiring environment for further milestones in Schulich’s pathbreaking research activities, and houses a number of Centres of Excellence in areas of management education where Schulich is a global leader. These include Schulich’s Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business, the Centre for Global Enterprise, the Brookfield Centre in Real Estate and Infrastructure, and a future Centre of Excellence in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.

Humboldt Research Award
Schulich’s Business History Chair wins prestigious Humboldt Research Award
Matthias Kipping, Richard E. Waugh Chair in Business History at Schulich School of Business, has received a prestigious research award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, a German organization that promotes science, cross-disciplinary research and intercultural understanding. This is the first time a professor at the Schulich School of Business has received a Humboldt Research Award.

Professor Russell Belk Elected to Royal Society of Canada
Russell Belk, Professor of Marketing, Kraft Foods Canada Chair in Marketing, was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. In announcing Professor Belk’s election as a Fellow in the Division of Social Sciences, the Royal Society of Canada described him as a “world leader” in his field as well as one of the founders of Consumer Culture Theory. The Royal Society of Canada is the country’s most senior and distinguished council of scholars.
Early Researcher Award
Schulich Professor Wins Prestigious Early Researcher Award
Theodore Noseworthy, Associate Professor of Marketing and Canada Research Chair in Entrepreneurial Innovation and the Public Good became the first Schulich Professor to receive the Early Researcher Award (ERA) from Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation. He is putting the $190,000 grant to good use by exploring the real-world impact of how dressed-up junk food can hinder peoples’ ability to self-regulate consumption, leading to overconsumption.

Schulich Celebrates Faculty at Research Day
Dean Dezsö J. Horváth, CM, presented the Dean’s Impact Research Awards to recognize and reward Schulich faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in research. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Christine Oliver, Professor and Henry J. Knowles Chair in Organizational Strategy, and the Emerging Leader Award went to Associate Professor Charlene Zietsma.

Professor of Strategy, Dirk Matten and Professor of Operations Management and Information Systems, Wade Cook were recently bestowed prestigious Citation of Excellence Awards for their 2014 papers in the Emerald Group Publishing journals.

Schulich Professor Emeritus Ron Burke Receives Distinguished Scholar-Practitioner Award
Ronald J. Burke, professor emeritus of organization studies at the Schulich School of Business at York University, is the recipient of one of the top awards presented by the Academy of Management (AOM). Burke received AOM’s 2017 Career Achievement Award for Distinguished Scholar-Practitioner.

17th Century Perspective Earns Prestigious Book Award
The American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA) recently announced that Professor Moshe A. Milevsky’s book King William’s Tontine: Why the Retirement Annuity of the Future Should Resemble Its Past has been selected to receive the 2017 Kulp-Wright Book Award.

Eileen Fischer Receives Coveted York Honour
At the fall convocation, Schulich Professor of Marketing, Anne & Max Tanenbaum Chair in Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise, Director, PhD Program, Eileen Fischer earned one of York University’s most prestigious honours with a University Professorship. “Eileen Fischer has reached the highest echelons of academic success and has excelled in all dimensions of academic endeavour. The honour of being named a University Professor is truly well deserved,” said Dean Dezsö J. Horváth.

Dr. Murat Kristal Honoured by Poets & Quants
Poets & Quants recently released their list of “The Most Outstanding 40-Under-40 B-School Profs”, and Schulich’s own Murat Kristal was included. Dr. Kristal is the Director of the Master of Business Analytics (MBAN) program, which he established four years ago – the first of its kind in Canada.

Marketing Professor Named Top 30 Under 30
Assistant Professor of Marketing Ela Veresiu has been named one of Marketing Magazine’s 30 Under 30, the next wave of marketing leaders revealed in a nation-wide search for Canada’s top talent. As one of the youngest business professors in North America, Professor Veresiu studies consumer behavior with a specific focus on the political dynamics of consumption.

Schulich Professor Shares Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal Award
The Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal has awarded a Schulich professor’s paper the Mary Parker Follet Highly Commended Award for 2016. Immigration and neoliberalism: three cases and counter accounts was co-authored by Marcia Annisette, Program Director of the Master of Accounting program, with colleagues from Hofstra University and the University of London.

Researcher Examines How Bombardier Maintains its Leading Edge in China
Professor of Strategic Management/Policy and Newmont Endowed Chair in Business Strategy Justin Tan examines the Chinese rail transportation manufacturing industry with a focus on the high-speed train sector. For his research efforts, Professor Tan was recognized as the top contributor of Chinese Entrepreneurship research based on three leading entrepreneurship journals; the Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Journal of Small Business Management.
